Channels & whispers

Five channels carry talk: World (everyone), Trade (buying and selling), Help (questions), Clan (your clan only), and private Whispers. Pick the channel you compose to with the selector beside the box; each channel has its own colour, and your pick is remembered across refreshes.

Start a whisper by clicking a player's name in chat, or type Name@ your message. @@ replies to the last person you whispered with.

Settings → Display holds the layout options: Tabbed chat (one channel at a time), a taller chat box, locking the panel open, hiding channels you never read, and whether forum announcements appear in the stream. History beside the box opens the recent backlog.

Emotes

Emotes are typed as :code: (case doesn't matter: :HB: works). The smiley button beside the chat box opens the picker, and typing : plus a few letters offers completions. Everyone can use the base set:

A message renders at most 8 emotes; any beyond that show as their written code. Emotes work in chat, whispers, the forum, signatures, and mail.

Emote packs

Premium packs add more emotes, bought with Ember Shards from the picker's pack tabs or in Settings → Ember Shards. Everyone sees pack emotes in chat; owning the pack lets you send them. Sending a pack code you don't own is harmless: the message still sends, with the code as plain text, and buying the pack brings your future messages to life.

Conduct

Chat is filtered: profanity is blocked outright, links are screened before they post, and rapid-fire or repeated spam earns an automatic mute. The Report button beside the chat box sends a line to the moderators with its context attached. Ignoring a player (from their profile) hides their public chat for you.
